(Division 5 & 6)
EHS consultants are highly skilled in undertaking Asbestos Surveys that meet the duty of the employer to identify and assess the risk of asbestos in the workplace.
The survey involves a site inspection to identify the type, location, ‘friability’ and condition of the Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) present.
Where suspected ACMs are identified the surveyor will take a number of samples for analysis at EHS’s NATA Accredited laboratory. An Asbestos Register must be created for all workplaces. A survey that identifies the risk to the building occupants is known as a Division 5 – Asbestos in the Workplace.
A Division 5 Survey is a non-invasive survey for an operating workplace. It fulfils the requirement to identify asbestos present, conduct a risk assessment and create an asbestos register for the site. It provides critical information to occupants of the premises to control the risk of exposure to airborne asbestos. The register should be periodically reviewed, following asbestos removal, if the condition of the asbestos containing material changes or if previously unidentified materials are discovered.
A survey that identifies risk to demolition and / or refurbishment workers is known as a Division 6 survey which is typically undertaken prior to the demolition or refurbishment of a building. In addition to identifying the presence of asbestos containing materials that may be disturbed by the planned works other hazardous materials are also assessed, the survey will typically assess Lead, Synthetic Mineral Fibre (SMF), Polychlorinated Bisphenyls, Ozone Depleting Substances and Chemicals. The findings of the Division 6 survey help to control risk at the site and ensure that the risk associated with disturbance of asbestos and other hazardous materials are controlled.
Qualified consultants from EHS undertake such Asbestos Surveys for a variety of property owners, including, residential, private business, state, and public/private consortiums throughout Victoria and Australia.
The findings of the Asbestos Survey are presented in a comprehensive report. EHS maintain the highest standards of security when conducting asbestos surveys. All the details of the investigations are strictly confidential.
